Uses of Levedom
An intravenous antiepileptic, used where seizures need controlling and the oral route is unavailable, and as a maintenance agent after status epilepticus has been broken.
Levetiracetam is favoured in the acute setting because it has few clinically important drug interactions and needs no cardiac monitoring during administration, which is a real advantage over older intravenous options in a busy department.

- Established status epilepticus, after first line benzodiazepine treatment
- Seizure prophylaxis in selected neurosurgical and head injury patients, as directed
