Uses of TG-Ark
A tetracycline class agent. Tigecycline, a glycylcycline, is the structurally modified member designed to evade the efflux and ribosomal protection mechanisms that made older tetracyclines unreliable.
The class is broad, covering many Gram positive, Gram negative, anaerobic and atypical organisms, though notably not Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Tigecycline distributes rapidly into tissue, which is useful clinically but means blood concentrations stay low, and it is not the agent of choice for a bloodstream infection.
- Complicated intra abdominal infection
- Complicated skin and soft tissue infection
- Infection caused by multidrug resistant organisms where susceptibility is confirmed
- Atypical and intracellular organisms, for the older members of the class
