Uses of PIPARK-4.5
An extended spectrum penicillin combined with a beta lactamase inhibitor. Piperacillin with tazobactam is one of the most heavily used empirical agents in intensive care because a single drug covers a wide Gram positive, Gram negative and anaerobic range including Pseudomonas aeruginosa.
The inhibitor contributes almost no antibacterial activity of its own. Its job is to be destroyed by the bacterial enzyme instead of the penicillin, which is why these combinations remain useful against organisms that have already defeated the penicillin alone.

- Complicated intra abdominal infection
- Complicated skin and soft tissue infection, including diabetic foot infection
- Febrile neutropenia
- Septicaemia and empirical cover in severe sepsis
