Uses of Cyclom-Spas
A non steroidal anti inflammatory given by injection for acute pain, sometimes combined with an antispasmodic where the pain is colicky in origin.
The class is effective and cheap, and its risks are well characterised: gastrointestinal, renal and cardiovascular. In a hospital population, and particularly in patients who are dehydrated or have any degree of renal impairment, those risks are the reason it is used at the lowest effective dose for the shortest time.
- Acute moderate to severe pain, including postoperative pain
- Renal and biliary colic, particularly the antispasmodic combinations
- Acute musculoskeletal pain and inflammation
- Fever unresponsive to other measures, as directed
